Ryan Mademann Campership
Ryan Mademann is an Eagle Scout (2005) from Troop 23 who passed away in May of 2009. Ryan greatly enjoyed scouting and was one of the more active young men until he left the troop to attend college. Ryan was a talented leader and good camper and he especially enjoyed the outdoor activities available through scouting.
The troop has been approached by a family with the commitment of $200/year over the next 10 years and would like the troop to match the funding. They are very open to others contributing to the Campership Fund as well.
The Campership would provide $200/year each to 2 scouts to cover the costs of attending summer camp with Troop 23. This is not a need based Campership but will be based on participation during the year. Scouts need to participate in a minimum set of requirements to be eligible and will then write an essay on a topic of the committee’s choosing. The Campership winners would then be selected based on the essays.
To be eligible, Scouts must have participated in 75% of the available Troop activities available to them between May 1 and April 30. Scouts who join after May 1 of the previous scout year must have participated in 75% of the activities available to them since joining.
The scouts that satisfy these criteria and are interested in the Campership will have the opportunity to write an essay describing why attending Summer Camp is important to them and how it fits in with their Scouting plan for the coming year.
Essays will be turned in to the Advancement Chairman or assistant, who will remove the scouts name and assign a number to ensure the submitter’s identity, is not available to the Judges.
Essays are due by the Memorial Day parade. Essays are to be 2-3 pages, double spaced (about 400-500 words). They can be printed or submitted electronically (MS Word 2003 compatible format).
The Essays will be read and judged by a combination of:
The winner will ultimately be chosen by either the Mademann Family or someone they appoint if they elect to not participate.
Winners will be announced by the middle of June
